Where Is Heartland National's Medicare Supplement Plan A Available?
How Medicare Supplement Plan A from Heartland National Covers You
Medicare Supplement Plan A offers the least coverage of all Medigap plans. Heartland National Life Insurance Company offers Plan A in all states where they sell Medicare plans (see above).
This is how Heartland National's Plan A covers you:- Medicare Part A coinsurance payments up to an additional 365 days after Original Medicare benefits are exhausted;
- Medicare Part B co-payment or coinsurance expenses, including preventative care coinsurance expenses;
- The first three pints of blood used in a medical procedure; and
- Part A hospice care coinsurance expense or co-payment.
NOTE: It's easy to mistake Medicare Supplement Plan A with Medicare Part A, which covers the bulk of your inpatient costs. Plan A is optional health insurance that pays a few of the gaps in your Medicare coverage, including your Part A coverage.
Out of all of the available Medicare Supplement plans, Plan A provides the fewest benefits. Beneficiaries are responsible for covering the Part A deductible in full, which includes hospitalization costs, Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) care, hospice care, and some home health care services. This plan might be suitable if you have no desire to pay costly premiums for benefits you are not likely to use. However, be aware that Medicare Plan A has the potential for higher out-of-pocket costs should you require inpatient hospital care.
Most plans cover some or all of the Part A inpatient deductible. Heartland National's Plan A might cost less compared to other plans, but the other plans might offer better coverage. It's important to think about this when comparing Medigap coverage and how the risk of additional medical expenses can impact your finances.
