Madison National Medicare Supplement Plan N for Michigan is one of the newest Medigap plans available. It helps fill the gaps in Original Medicare in a slightly different way. This Medicare Supplement offers coverage in addition to the standard benefits provided by oyher Medicare Supplements.
Basic benefits offered by Plan N include:
- Medicare Part A hospital coinsurance and other costs up to an additional 365 days after Original Medicare benefits are exhausted
- Medicare Part A hospice care coinsurance or co-payment
- Medicare Part B coinsurance or co-payments (except for a co-payment of up to $20 for some office visits and up to a $50 co-payment for emergency room visits that do not result in inpatient care)
- First three pints of blood used in a medical procedure
This plan also offers the following additional benefits:
- Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) coinsurance
- Medicare Part A deductible
- Foreign travel emergency care (up to plan limits)
Coverage and Costs
Generally, a Plan N through Madison National Life Insurance Co costs about 25% less than the more comprehensive Plan F. The lower premium is available because Plan N covers fewer gaps in Original Medicare. N most cases, beneficiaries enrolled in Madison National Medicare Supplement Plan N may be required to pay a $20 co-payment for a doctor's visit and $50 if they go to the emergency room (if not admitted). Plus, this plan does not cover the Part B deductible or Part B excess charges, so the beneficiary is also responsible for these costs.
Be aware that insurance companies may use one of three price rating systems to set their premium prices: community-rated, issue-age-rated, or attained-age-rated. Community-rated plans set premiums that are the same for all beneficiaries, regardless of age. Issue-age-rated plans set premiums based on the age of beneficiaries when they are "issued" their Medicare Supplement plan. Attained-age plans are said to be the most expensive, with premiums initially set based on beneficiaries' issue age that increase as beneficiaries age. Premiums may widely differ depending on the rating system used to set these prices.
The chart below explains how this plan covers the portions of Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) that are not paid by Medicare.
The following table details how the plan covers the portions of Medicare Part B (medical insurance) that are not paid by Medicare.
