What Medicare Supplements does Gerber Life offer in Alabama?
Gerber Life Insurance Company offers 5 different Alabama Medigap Plans. Each plan covers the gaps in Original Medicare differently (see Comparison Chart or check out our Review). Here's what Gerber Life offers:
Attained Age Rated Medigap Plans: With this plan rating type your monthly premium is based on your current age. As you age your premium will increase. As an example, if you enroll in a Medigap policy at age 65 with a premium of $120, it may increase to $138 when you turn 69, and $162 at age 72. Also, Attained Age rated plans may increase with inflation.
SAVINGS OPPORTUNITY: Gerber Life offers Medicare SELECT plan policies in some areas of Alabama. A Select plan is a Medigap policy that requires you to use specific hospitals and, in some cases specific doctors, to get the full financial benefit of the plan. A Medicare SELECT plan pays the Medicare Part A inpatient deductible when you use a network hospital or if you use a non-network hospital for emergency care. Otherwise, you pay the inpatient deductible. Other than that it's the same as the standard Medigap plan.

REVIEW: Gerber Life Medicare Supplements in Alabama
Gerber Life scored 3.0 out of 5.0 based on our scoring method. Gerber Life has a good financial rating from A.M. Best, but their Plan F is not in the top 10 best rates and they have less than 10 years experience servicing Medicare Supplements. Plus, they ding you with a $25.00 policy fee. We are confident in their financial strength, but feel there are better options in Alabama. See the top 10 competition.
Here are the pros and cons from our analysis:
- Excellent financial strength.
- Offers Medicare SELECT plans.
- Uncompetitive Plan F premium.
- Less than 10 years in the Medicare Supplements business.
- Does not offer the 5 most popular plans.
- Charges a fee to write the policy.
