More Plan Options
The average Louisiana senior compares three or more plan options before making an enrollment decision.
Who Can Enroll in Medicare Advantage in Acadia Parish?
If you are age 65 or older, you most likely qualify to enroll in a Louisiana Medicare Advantage plan available in your county. If you have End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), you will need to stay on Original Medicare.
You are only allowed to join, drop or change plans during a Medicare Election Period. The period between 15 October and 7 December is the Annual Election Period (AEP). That's when most folks make changes to their Medicare.
You also have an Individual Election Period (IEP). Your IEP begins the month before your 65th birthday, includes your birth month, and continues the month after your birth month.
There are three ways to enroll:
- Call a plan directly. If you know the plan you want, this way is quick and easy.
- Go to www.Medicare.gov and enroll through the government website. From there you can look up your medications, compare plans, and get your application started online.
- Use an independent Louisiana insurance agent. This is the best way to go if you need someone to help advise you.
Original Medicare + Medigap vs. a Acadia Parish Medicare Advantage Plan
If you are worried that an HMO or PPO plan will try to limit your care, or that these plans are bad, Medicare Advantage is not the only way to get full coverage in Acadia Parish. For a little more each month you can have the best care available and lower your out-of-pocket expenses. Savvy seniors hold on to their Original Medicare and get the additional coverage they need with a Louisiana Medicare Part D Plan (prescriptions) and a Louisiana Medigap plan (supplemental Medicare insurance).
A Medicare supplement policy protects you from big medical bills and helps you lower the total annual cost of your healthcare. See our directory of supplemental plans to compare supplemental Medicare insurance available in your area. The good news is that all supplemental insurance is standardized, offering you the luxury to buy the coverage you need based on the lowest price.
