Standard Life Medicare Supplement Plan F (HD) [Arizona] Review
On this page we explain the benefits offered by Standard Life Medicare Supplement Plan F (HD) and compare it with other plans available in Arizona. Our goal is to help you find the best plan for your needs at the best possible cost.
What is Standard Life Medicare Supplement Plan F (HD)?
The High Deductible Medicare Supplement Plan F is a variation on the standard Medicare Plan F serviced by Standard Life. This plan requires you to pay all out-of-pocket expenses for the first $2,240 in charges, after which Standard Life and Accident Insurance Company starts paying its share of the expenses.
Here are the costs and benefits covered by a High Deductible Plan F policy:
- Part A deductible
- Part B deductible
- Part B excess charges
- Preventative care Part B coinsurance
- Part A hospital and coinsurance costs up to an additional 356 days after Medicare benefits are exhausted
- Part B coinsurance or co-payment
- First three pints of blood used in an approved medical procedure (annually)
- Part A hospice care co-payment or coinsurance
- Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) coinsurance
- Foreign travel emergency
If you need to avoid significant financial risk while keeping your premium low, this plan is worth a look. Once the deductible is met, Standard Life covers all remaining hospital and doctor costs after Medicare pays its part.
Premiums on this Medigap plan in Arizona are as low as $26.48* per month. Other plans from Standard Life may be available for less. That said, the details of this high deductible plan make it an attractive option if you need to avoid the risk of high medical bills due to hospitalization, serious illness, or a chronic condition, while keeping your monthly premium as low as possible.

Standard Life Medicare Supplement Plan HD-F vs. Competition
The following table shows how Standard Life's Medicare Supplement Plan HD-F stacks up with the competition.
Coverage and Costs
Standard Life Medicare Supplement Plan F (HD) may offer expansive coverage, but it does not cover everything. Beneficiaries are still required to pay their Medicare Part B premium payments each month, and you may have a Part A premium if you did not pay Social Security taxes for at least 40 calendar quarters (10 years). Plus, don't forget that you must pay the first $2,140 out-of-pocket.
Like all other Plan F supplements, this policy covers the gaps in your major medical expenses, but it does not pay for prescriptions, hearing, vision, dental and other healthcare needs not covered by Original Medicare.
The chart below explains how this plan covers the portions of Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) that are not paid by Medicare.
The following table details how the plan covers the portions of Medicare Part B (medical insurance) that are not paid by Medicare.
