GPM Health and Life Medicare Supplement Plan N [Arizona] Review

On this page we explain the benefits offered by GPM Health and Life Medicare Supplement Plan N and compare it with other plans available in Arizona. Our goal is to help you find the best plan for your needs at the best possible cost.

What is GPM Health and Life Medicare Supplement Plan N?

Medicare Supplement Plan N is one of the newest Medigap plans. GPM Health and Life offers it because it helps Arizona seniors fill the gaps in their Medicare benefits in a slightly different way. With a Medigap Plan N policy, insured by GPM Health and Life Insurance Company, you may still be required to pay a copayment of up to $20 for some office visits and up to $50 for emergency room care that does not require you to be admitted.

GPM Health and Life Medicare Supplement Plan N for Arizona Medicare BeneficiariesBasic benefits offered by Plan N include:

  1. Medicare Part A hospital coinsurance and other costs up to an additional 365 days after Original Medicare benefits are exhausted
  2. Medicare Part A hospice care coinsurance or co-payment
  3. Medicare Part B coinsurance or co-payments (except for a co-payment of up to $20 for some office visits and up to a $50 co-payment for emergency room visits that do not result in inpatient care)
  4. First three pints of blood used in a medical procedure

This plan also offers the following additional benefits:

  1. Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) coinsurance
  2. Medicare Part A deductible
  3. Foreign travel emergency care (up to plan limits)

It's easy to see why Plan N's popularity is increasing. We compared GPM Health and Life with all other supplemental insurance companies in Arizona and gave them 2.5 stars out of 5.

Coverage and Costs

Generally, a Plan N through GPM Health and Life costs about 25% less than the more comprehensive Plan F. The lower premium is available because Plan N covers fewer gaps in Original Medicare. N most cases, beneficiaries enrolled in GPM Health and Life Medicare Supplement Plan N may be required to pay a $20 co-payment for a doctor's visit and $50 if they go to the emergency room (if not admitted). Plus, this plan does not cover the Part B deductible or Part B excess charges, so the beneficiary is also responsible for these costs.

Be aware that insurance companies may use one of three price rating systems to set their premium prices: community-rated, issue-age-rated, or attained-age-rated. Community-rated plans set premiums that are the same for all beneficiaries, regardless of age. Issue-age-rated plans set premiums based on the age of beneficiaries when they are "issued" their Medicare Supplement plan. Attained-age plans are said to be the most expensive, with premiums initially set based on beneficiaries' issue age that increase as beneficiaries age. Premiums may widely differ depending on the rating system used to set these prices.
