Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Medicare Supplement Plan M for Michigan offers its beneficiaries the middle ground between the general benefits of Plan A and the comprehensive benefits of Plan F. The core of this Medicare Supplement provides solid financial protection from long-term hospitalization and skilled-nursing.
Premiums for a Plan M policy are slightly lower than most other options, mainly because beneficiaries split the Part A deductible with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. The following costs and benefits are covered:
- Medicare Part A hospital coinsurance and hospital costs up to 365 days after Original Medicare benefits are exhausted
- Part A hospice care coinsurance payment or co-payment
- Medicare Part B co-payment or coinsurance payment
- Part B preventive care coinsurance payment
- First three pints of blood for a medical procedure
- Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) coinsurance
- Medicare Part A deductible costs
- Foreign travel emergency coverage (up to plan limits)
Coverage and Costs
If you enroll in this Plan M through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, 50% of your Medicare Part A deductible is paid, but you pay the Part B deductible out-of-pocket. However, once the Part B deductible is met, there are no more co-payments at your doctor's office. You will also pay for any Medicare excess charges out-of-pocket. Excess charges are an extra amount that a doctor or physician can charge (up to 15%) for a visit or service.
The chart below explains how this plan covers the portions of Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) that are not paid by Medicare.
The following table details how the plan covers the portions of Medicare Part B (medical insurance) that are not paid by Medicare.
