United American Medicare Supplement Plan L [Michigan] Review
On this page we explain the benefits offered by United American Medicare Supplement Plan L and compare it with other plans available in Michigan. Our goal is to help you find the best plan for your needs at the best possible cost.
What is United American Medicare Supplement Plan L?
Medicare Supplement Plan L is a cost sharing plan. Because of its higher degree of cost-sharing, United American's Plan L rates (starting around $133.00* per month) are significantly less than their Plan F.
United American's Medigap Plan L policy covers 100% of the costs of:
- Medicare Part A coinsurance and hospital costs up to 365 days after Original Medicare benefits are exhausted
- Medicare Part B preventive care coinsurance
Plan L covers 75% of these costs:
- Medicare Part A hospice care coinsurance or co-payment
- Medicare Part A deductible
- Medicare Part B coinsurance or co-payment
- First three pints of blood used in a medical procedure
- Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) care coinsurance
This Medicare plan is an option to consider if you can handle the up-front deductibles ($2,620 out-of-pocket limit plus Part B deductible). Plan L covers the basic benefits required of all supplements, but may not pay all of each costs. We compared United American with all other Medigap insurance providers in Michigan and rated them 4.0 stars out of 5.
United American Medicare Supplement Plan L vs. Competition
The following table shows how United American's Medicare Supplement Plan L stacks up with the competition.
Coverage and Costs
This Plan L from United American may include premiums, deductibles, coinsurance, and co-payments. Because Plan L has a higher level of cost-sharing than other Medigap plans, beneficiaries are responsible for more than a monthly plan premium. The trade-off is that premiums are generally lower.
Unlike most supplements, Plan L policies protect you with a $2,470 annual out-of-pocket limit. The trade-off is that Plan L includes more cost-sharing than other plans. However, after you reach the limit and pay your Medicare Part B deductible, the insurance pays 100% of all costs for the remainder of the year.
The chart below explains how this plan covers the portions of Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) that are not paid by Medicare.
The following table details how the plan covers the portions of Medicare Part B (medical insurance) that are not paid by Medicare.
