How Do SCAN Health Plan Medicare Advantage Plans Work?

SCAN Health Plan Medicare Advantage plan members receive all of their Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) and Medicare Part B (medical insurance) benefits through their plan. This includes preventive care, screenings, vaccinations, doctor and specialist visits, and inpatient care.

All SCAN Health Plan Medicare Advantage plans include coverage for:

  • Inpatient hospital admissions.
  • Doctor and specialist care.
  • Preventive care, screenings, and vaccinations.
  • Diagnostic services, lab work, X-rays and other imaging.
  • Outpatient services.
  • Ambulance transportation for emergencies.
  • Durable medical supplies and equipment.

Medicare rules mandate that all Medicare Part C plans offer coverage and benefits that match or exceed those of Original Medicare. However, SCAN Health Plan sets its own out-of-pocket costs.

Some SCAN Health Plan plans offer additional benefits like routine dental, vision, hearing, and wellness programs, which are not usually covered by Original Medicare.

When you join a SCAN Health Plan Medicare Advantage plan, you can manage all your healthcare needs under one plan. This often comes with lower out-of-pocket costs and extra benefits suited to your health and lifestyle.

However, it's important to note that lower costs aren't guaranteed. Costs depend on the specific plan and how much you use healthcare services. Also, the SCAN Health Plan plan you choose may have access restrictions, such as needing referrals and prior authorization. Original Medicare does not have these restrictions.

  • Transportation Services: SCAN plans often include transportation benefits for medical appointments, ensuring members can access necessary care without worrying about transportation costs.
  • Over-the-Counter (OTC) Allowances: Members receive a quarterly allowance to purchase over-the-counter health products such as vitamins, pain relievers, and other non-prescription items.
  • Meal Delivery Services: After a hospital discharge, SCAN plans may offer meal delivery services to help ensure members receive nutritious meals while they recover at home.
  • Fitness Programs: Access to fitness programs like SilverSneakers, which provides free gym memberships and fitness classes tailored to older adults, is commonly included.
  • Telehealth Services: SCAN plans frequently include telehealth options, allowing members to consult with healthcare providers remotely, which can be especially convenient for those with mobility issues or who live in remote areas.
  • Caregiver Support: Benefits often extend to support services for caregivers, providing resources and assistance to those caring for SCAN members.

These additional benefits aim to support the overall health and quality of life for SCAN Health Plan members, making their Medicare Advantage plans a robust choice for many seniors.
