Benefit Limits (5 Stars)
Pet insurance carriers often cap reimbursement benefits (e.g., $5,000, $10,000, $15,000). This is where Healthy Paws really shines, because all of their plans are unlimited. That means there are no caps on your pet’s coverage.
Most pet insurers offer unlimited benefits as an option or as part of their premium plan. Not so with Healthy Paws. It’s included in all of their plans. As long as your pet does not have a the condition pre-existing condition, there’s no limit on how much the company will reimburse you to make your furry friend well again. pay to make your animal well. We love this reassurance. It’s why we gave Healthy Paws 5 Stars on this mark.
Deductible (4.5 Stars)
The deductible is one of two factors that influences pet insurance premiums the most. The other is reimbursement level. While we love Healthy Paws straight forward annual deductible, we felt that other plans offer a better range. In the same way that we can purchase catastrophic coverage for ourselves, we think this is a good option for our pets, too.

Reimbursement (5 Stars)
Healthy Paws gives you the flexibility to customize your pet’s plan to the reimbursement level that fits your budget. As with low deductibles, the higher the percentage of reimbursement, the more you’re going to pay in monthly premiums. Healthy Paws offers three reimbursement level options: 70%, 80%, or 90%. We gave them 5 Stars on this mark because reimbursement is based on your actual veterinary bill, not a schedule.

Monthly Premiums (4.5 Stars)
Given an unlimited income, we’d all choose the lowest deductible with the highest payout. For many senior pet owners, the best of the best simply isn’t possible. However, when you factor in Healthy Paw’s unlimited coverage, deductibles, and reimbursement options, their plans are competitively priced. When you includes available discounts, their rates are even better.

Claims and Service (4.5 Stars)
Claims and service are 100% subjective. When it comes to pet insurance, consumers write more negative reviews than positive. However, Healthy Paws has no shortage of positive reviews.
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) gives Healthy Paws an A+ rating with 70% of all reviews being positive. The BBB composite review score is 4.61 out of 5 stars (as of 6/9/2018) on 63 reviews. There were 33 complaints closed with BBB in last 3 years; 18 closed in last 12 months. The highest percentage of complaints (19 out of 33) were related to problems with the service.
Yelp reviewers were slightly more critical. Even so, of the 372 Yelp reviews we read, 248 were 5 stars. Overwhelmingly, Yelpers give Healthy Paws glowing reviews and post photos of their furry friends in gratitude.
Google reviewers are the most generous of all, chipping in to give Healthy Paws a composite score of 4.8 out of five stars on 123 reviews (as of 6/9/2018). Facebook is similar at 4.5 stars, with an impressive 800+ 5 star reviews given.
Enrollment (4 Stars)
Enrollment is all about making it easy to get your pet covered. Healthy Paws enrolls pets from 8 weeks to 13 years. If your pet is within this age range, you can enroll them online and the waiting period begins. There’s a 15 day waiting period for accidents and illnesses, and a 12-month waiting period for Hip Dysplasia.
NOTE: Healthy Paws does not cover Hip Dysplasia on animals 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. This is critical if your pet’s breed is prone to this chronic health issue. For pets under six years of age, you must provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months or your pet won’t be covered. Many of the complaints we read on Yelp, Facebook and BBB are related to this very issue.
As most other pet policies do not have the same restriction on Hip Dysplasia, we deducted a full star.
All things considered, we really like what Healthy Paws has to offer. Overall, it’s the best value for the money. They literally have a plan to fit just about every budget.
Although examination fees are not covered, there are no annual limits, lifetime limits or payment caps and all conditions that are not pre-existing are covered. You can enroll your pets anytime after they are weaned until their 14th birthday.
When you consider the value and peace-of-mind you get, giving Healthy Paws our Editor’s Choice Award was an easy decision.
