Newport News City County Medicare Insurance Options
Medicare Part A (inpatient) and Medicare Part B (outpatient), commonly called Original Medicare, is the same for everyone with Medicare benefits, including Newport News City County. This is not true of the other parts of Medicare, which are highly dependent on where you live.
Also, although there are nearly 200,000 primary care doctors (physicians) in America that are authorized to bill Medicare for services provided to their patients, every doctor accepts Medicare payments in a different way. As a result, the combination of health insurance options and doctors who accept them is seemingly endless.
The purpose of the MedicareWire.com website is to help guide you through the process of choosing your health insurance. It's all about providing you with the information you need so you can get on the phone with a licensed adviser and finalize your Medicare elections for the year.
Medicare Advantage Insurance in Newport News City County
If you're concerned that Original Medicare might be too expensive (you pay 20% of all costs), then a Newport News City County Medicare Advantage plan is the first option you need to explore. It's the private health insurance alternative that replaces your Medicare Part A and Part B benefits with a managed care plan (HMO or PPO), or a private fee-for-service plan (available in limited areas).
For most Newport News City County seniors cost is a factor, so let's talk about it. You have plans as low as $0.00 per month and some as high as $90.00 per month. It's not always true that the higher the premium the more benefits and coverage you get. Be a good shopper and compare. Be sure to compare prescription drug benefits. There are 12 plans that give you prescription drug coverage and 5 that don't include it.
There are several different type of plans, including Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), Private Fee-for-Service (PFFS), and Medical Savings Account (MSA). HMO and PPO plans are the most common. We identify the plan type and its benefits on each plan page.
In many areas you will find one or more $0 plans. This simply means that there's no additional monthly premium cost to you above and beyond your monthly Part B premium. In all cases you are required to continue to pay your monthly Part B premium in addition to the Medicare Advantage plan premium.
A low premium is not the only cost to consider when comparing health insurance. Don't forget to look at the MOOP. That's the maximum out-of-pocket expenses you will pay each year. It's an important feature, because it helps you avoid the heavy burden of high medical bills. Be aware that the MOOP does not include the cost of your premiums or your prescriptions.
About one-third of all seniors on Medicare enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan. You can learn more about this private health insurance option on our Medicare Advantage Frequently Asked Questions page and our Medicare Advantage Coverage page.
Medicare Supplement Insurance in Newport News City County
Original Medicare offers Virginia seniors the most flexibility in their healthcare options, but it also comes with a significant risk: Original Medicare does not have an out-of-pocket limit. This serious risk is the reason the insurance industry offers Medicare Supplemental insurance, also known as Medigap.
Medigap insurance is available in Virginia in ten standardized letter plans, A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M and N. There's also a high deductible version of Plan F. Plan A is the most basic and Plan F offers the most coverage possible.
It's critical that you understand how Medigap works. It does not give you extra healthcare benefits. If Medicare does not cover a healthcare expense, Medigap does not cover it. That includes your prescriptions, hearing aids, eye glasses, dental exams and other items that Medicare does not cover. Medigap works with everything covered under Medicare Part A and Part B.
Medicare Prescription Drug Plans in Newport News City County
In addition to no out-of-pocket limits, Original Medicare does not cover your prescription medications. It covers medications you need while hospitalized as an inpatient, but for outpatient care you must pay all costs or enroll in a Virginia Medicare Part D plan (PDP) to get cost assistance.
There are a total of 30 PDPs available to Virginia seniors. Premiums range from $12.60 to $125.00 per month. Also, be aware that some plans have an annual deductible that you must pay at the pharmacy before assistance begins. Some plans have a $0 deductible, but premiums are generally higher.
Prescription drug insurance is important, so be sure to learn as much as you can about Medicare Part D before enrolling. You'll find plenty of information on our Medicare Part D Frequently Asked Questions and Medicare Part D Coverage pages.
