Flagler County Medicare Insurance Options

Medicare Part A (inpatient) and Medicare Part B (outpatient), commonly called Original Medicare, is the same for everyone with Medicare benefits, including Flagler County. This is not true of the other parts of Medicare, which are highly dependent on where you live.

Also, although there are nearly 200,000 primary care doctors (physicians) in America that are authorized to bill Medicare for services provided to their patients, every doctor accepts Medicare payments in a different way. As a result, the combination of health insurance options and doctors who accept them is seemingly endless.

Our goal is to help you find all of the information you need to narrow your plan options to a small number so you can get on the phone with licensed adviser and make your final election for the year. In our experience, people who take a little more time investigating their options generally have better results with their healthcare.

Medicare Advantage Insurance in Flagler County

If the risk of high out-of-pocket costs with Original Medicare has you worried, then a Flagler County Medicare Advantage plan is one alternative you need to consider. Medicare Advantage offers all of the same basic benefits as Original Medicare, and plans have the option to add additional benefits, including prescription drug coverage.

Monthly premiums in Flagler County start at $0.00 and go as high as $135.00. Generally, the higher the premium the more benefits and coverage a plan has, but not always. The most common additional benefit is prescription drugs. You have 12 Medicare Advantage plans offering prescription drug coverage. There are 4 plans that do not include prescription coverage. That's a total of 16 options!

There are several different type of plans, including Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), Private Fee-for-Service (PFFS), and Medical Savings Account (MSA). HMO and PPO plans are the most common. We identify the plan type and its benefits on each plan page.

Zero dollar ($0) plans are available in most areas, but not all. Zero dollar does not mean free, it simply indicates that there's no additional monthly premium to enroll. However, you are still required to pay your monthly Part B premium. This is the case with all Medicare Advantage plans.

Are you aware that Medicare Advantage has an annual out-of-pocket spending limit? This feature, called the Maximum Out-of-Pocket (MOOP) expense, is what safeguards you from the threat of high medical bills. Each year the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) sets the maximum and an alternative minimum MOOP that plans may offer, so be sure to look for it when comparing your health insurance options.

A full thirty-three percent of all Medicare beneficiaries enroll in Medicare Advantage each year. The reason is simple: it's a cost-effective alternative to Original Medicare. We encourage you to learn more by visiting our Medicare Advantage Frequently Asked Questions and Medicare Advantage Coverage pages.

Medicare Supplement Insurance in Flagler County

The only relief Florida seniors have from the high cost of medical bills is additional insurance. That's because Original Medicare does not set limits on your annual out-of-pocket expenses. It's a serious risk that you need to consider. If you plan to keep your Original Medicare, the solution is Medicare Supplement insurance (Medigap).

Medicare Supplements protect you by paying all or part of the uncovered portions of your Medicare bill (up to the limits of the plan you choose). Each of the ten lettered plans have different coverage levels, but they are all standardized by the Florida state board of insurance. You simply choose the level of coverage you want and shop for the best premium.

It's critical that you understand how Medigap works. It does not give you extra healthcare benefits. If Medicare does not cover a healthcare expense, Medigap does not cover it. That includes your prescriptions, hearing aids, eye glasses, dental exams and other items that Medicare does not cover. Medigap works with everything covered under Medicare Part A and Part B.

You can learn more about supplemental Medicare insurance on our Medigap Frequently Asked Questions page and our Medigap Coverage page.

Medicare Prescription Drug Plans in Flagler County

Most Florida seniors will eventually need help paying for their prescription medications. Unfortunately, this is not a benefit provided by Original Medicare, you have to buy it. You can get prescription drug coverage assistance by enrolling in a Medicare Part D plan (PDP) or a Medicare Advantage plan that includes a PDP.

You have a total of 30 Florida PDP options this year. Every year plans change, so be sure to review your choices each Annual Election Period. The low cost plan this year is just $12.60 per month. At the high end, premiums top out at $174.70 per month. If you have regular prescriptions, be sure to compare your needs with a plan's formulary before enrolling.

Prescription drug insurance is important, so be sure to learn as much as you can about Medicare Part D before enrolling. You'll find plenty of information on our Medicare Part D Frequently Asked Questions and Medicare Part D Coverage pages.
