Colonial Penn Medigap Plan A for Pennsylvania is the most basic of all Medicare Supplements. Plan A covers some of the gaps in Original Medicare. It's easy to confuse Plan A with Medicare Part A, which pays for the bulk of your inpatient hospital care. This is optional health insurance that supplements a few of the gaps in your Medicare coverage.
The Colonial Penn Medigap Plan A Medicare supplement policy covers:
- Medicare Part A coinsurance payments up to an additional 365 days after Original Medicare benefits are exhausted
- Medicare Part B co-payment or coinsurance expenses, including preventative care coinsurance expenses
- The first three pints of blood used in a medical procedure
- Part A hospice care coinsurance expense or co-payment
Costs Associated with Colonial Penn Medigap Plan A
Colonial Penn Medigap Plan A offers the least benefits. Beneficiaries are responsible for covering the Part A deductible in full, which includes hospitalization costs, Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) care, hospice care, and some home health care services. This plan might be suitable if you have no desire to pay costly premiums for benefits you are not likely to use. However, be aware that this plan has the potential for higher out-of-pocket costs should you require inpatient hospital care.
Most Medicare Supplement plans cover some or all of the Part A deductible. Colonial Penn Medigap Plan A may be less expensive when compared to other plan types, but the other plan types offer more coverage. Take this into consideration when choosing a plan, and how the risk of additional co-payment or coinsurance expenses can affect your finances.
The chart below explains how this plan covers the portions of Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) that are not paid by Medicare.
The following table details how the plan covers the portions of Medicare Part B (medical insurance) that are not paid by Medicare.
